Here are a couple of drabbles I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] lokifan and [livejournal.com profile] melusinahp. They're both dark and angsty. No fluff to be found here!

Title: The Stuff of His Fantasies
Author: [livejournal.com profile] drippingcherry
Rating: PG
Character: Barty Crouch, Jr. (implied future Barty/Draco)
Timeline: The summer before Draco's sixth year. Pretends Barty wasn't caught at the end of GoF. Otherwise, canon-compliant.
Summary: Barty doesn't think Draco has what it takes to be a Death Eater.

The young Malfoy watches me with longing. His grey eyes no longer dart away when I look at him. The desperation in them grows as the time to return to Hogwarts draws near; he is clinging to that quickly fading desire to serve the Dark Lord and rise among the ranks of Death Eaters. A two-faced coward like his father, but weaker, he doesn't have it in him to succeed.

He always grimaces at the sight of the Dark Lord's face; it's not a bewitching kind of evil, the kind he read about in fairy tales. My looks are more appealing to him. The poor, innocent fool. He has yet to learn that a pretty wrapping doesn't mask the stench of something rotten. His interest in the Dark Arts is but a childish whimsy, a castle built in the air; one taste of what it is to kill a man, and its foundations will crumble.

I will give him what he wants, but it won't be the stuff of his fantasies.

Title: The Drink of Despair
Rating: PG
Character: Regulus Black
Summary: Regulus has amends to make.

The phosphorescent glow emanating from the basin is too bright compared to the pitch black of the cave. Regulus squints against it as he gazes at his own reflection in the liquid, a potion so green it sends the words Avada Kedava ringing in his ears. He feels nauseated, wishes Kreacher would stop sobbing.

In his trembling hand, he holds a summoned goblet; it is heavy with the weight of his dread. He's going to die here alone. No one will know what happened to him. His mother will cry. Sirius will think he died a hateful coward. But he isn't here to comfort his mother, who had led him astray, or to prove himself to his brother, whom he'd let down. They're better off not knowing.

The goblet shakes as Regulus lowers it into the basin. Kreacher's sobs suddenly grow louder.

There is too much to drink. A drop for every prejudiced word he has ever spewed. A mouthful for every time he has stood by and watched his fellow Death Eaters torture or kill an innocent person. A goblet for every time he was told to cast an Unforgivable Curse, and obeyed.

Regulus is afraid; he doesn't want to die alone in this cursed cave. But the locket needs to be destroyed, and he has amends to make. So he tips the goblet back and drinks.

And drinks.

And drinks.
